What’s a public speaking coach ?

A public speaking coach is someone who comes alongside you during your presentation creation and delivery preparation.

They provide you with continuous support as you prepare for your event.

What are the advantages of having a public speaking coach?

A public speaking coach helps you stand and deliver by answering your questions about what to expect, helping optimize your powerpoint (if using), easing your fears, helping you develop a plan, and generally getting you ready for the arrival of your “presentation baby.”

During presentation creation and delivery prep, a public speaking coach provides constant, knowledgeable support.

They can make suggestions about body position, help you with timing, and provide a sounding board for decision making.

Faced with some of the uncertainties of public speaking, many people find enormous reassurance in having a public speaking coach through the process. Research has found that people who have coaching support tend to have less anxiety and use medication less often.

People who have continuous support are also more likely to report being satisfied with their experience.

One theory is that people who have coaching support produce lower levels of stress hormones during their presentation than people going it alone or taking pointers from a book or friends.

Here is what a recent client said:

How do I find a public speaking coach?

  • Have I identified my Presentation Personality style?
  • Am I interested in creating my powerpoint presentation with a coach?
  • Am I looking for help marketing myself, product, or business?
  • Have I gotten stuck or stalled as a big presentation looms?
  • Am I a talk learner that needs to talk through some of the program concepts in order to apply them to my presentation?

Here’s a list of questions to ask yourself about potential public speaking coach:

  • Do I feel comfortable around this person?
  • Is he or she warm, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable?
  • Does he or she communicate and listen well?
  • Have they helped someone in a similar situation previously? How?
