Course Breakdown

  • Module One: Introduction and Welcome
  • You’re about to learn how to Persuade, Motivate, Teach or Inspire any audience through your pitch. You’ll discover 33 practical strategies to help you give an amazing pitch that actually changes behavior, become a more effective leader, make killer public presentations, rally support for a cause, improve your public speaking skills, hook any audience, build physical performance skills, test for understanding, create backing for your plan, set up social innovation and change, and generate confidence that you can actually pull off what you are proposing.
  • Module Two: Create Your Core Content
  • Create an irresistible menu, create a blueprint and map out your message. The key is to always focus on the real, practical, actionable steps you’re giving your audience so they can take what you say and apply it right away. When they take action—when they make a behavioral change—it’s because they have learned something from you. When you cause behavioral change, you will have set yourself apart as a first-rate presenter. Learn how in this session.
  • Module Three: Start With a Killer Opener
  • In business, you have to keep your focus. You have to be constantly reminded that the presentation isn’t about you; it’s about your audience. When you’re meeting the audience members for the first time, when you’re making that first impression, how you’re feeling and what you’re doing doesn’t matter as much as how they’re doing and how they’re feeling. You should be concentrating on their feelings and their needs.
  • Module Four: Command With Your Body
  • Whether you are meeting someone one-on-one or speaking to an audience of five thousand, before you’ve said a word, people have made some kind of judgment about you. And while your superficial appearance is important—what you’re wearing, how fit and groomed you are, and how attractive you may be—they determine what kind of a person you are based on cues that are far more subtle. The pitch is all about your body language.
  • Module Five: Convince With Your Voice
  • Choose your words wisely by reducing filler words. Master the use of pace, volume and inflection, and practice your tone. In pre-television days, Franklin Roosevelt was a four-term president. His first term began in 1933, six years after a brief illness left him paralyzed from the waist down. Though he was unable to stride confidently onto a stage or stand at attention reviewing the troops he commanded, he was elected president of the United States four times, once during wartime, when a country especially craves strong leadership. His radio addresses were what conveyed his strength and conviction. His calm, reassuring voice was probably the most effective way he convinced the people they could put their faith in his strength as the commander-in-chief. The same is true for your pitch.
  • Module Six: Appear Confident and Credible
  • Use confident body language, speak in a confident voice and use your physical presence. Just as there is no automatic link between being and appearing nervous, there is not necessarily a link between being confident and appearing confident. You may be thoroughly informed about your subject and comfortable talking about it, but you have to convince the audience that you are. That’s what you’ll learn in this session.
  • Module Seven: Keep the Audience Captivated
  • Show the audience they need to listen to you in order “get” what you are presenting. In his book Brain Rules, John Medina cites research that suggests after about ten minutes of listening to a particular topic, people’s minds wander. No presentation or pitch can be a success if you can’t get and keep your audience’s attention, but you may have searched in vain for a method. Here are three keys to the solution.
  • Module Eight: Tailor Your Approach
  • Tailor your presentation to your audiences needs and their world. I am surprised when I look over presentations and discover that presenters have not done enough work to ensure their stories and examples are customized according to the particular requirements of the audience. Your audience needs to feel as if you have written this presentation specifically for them—even if that’s not the case.
  • Module Nine: Stay on Schedule
  • Create a timetable, direct the questions and adjust as you go. The primary reason presenters have problems with pacing is they haven’t done enough advance planning. Once you have prepared the blueprint for your presentation, you have to test it, adjust it, and document it. You’ll learn how to plan and practice the essentials.
  • Module Ten: Answer Any Questions
  • Look confident responding to any question the audience throws at you. If you handle questions well, you meet your audience’s needs, which earns you credibility and respect; you keep the audience focused and engaged, and you look like a pro. Learn how to field questions, respond to questions and conclude questions, regardless if you know the answer or not.
  • Module Eleven: Close to Applause
  • Look confident responding to any question the audience throws at you. If you handle questions well, you meet your audience’s needs, which earns you credibility and respect; you keep the audience focused and engaged, and you look like a pro. Learn how to field questions, respond to questions and conclude questions, regardless if you know the answer or not.
