Course Breakdown

  • Module One: Introduction and Welcome
  • This two hour program dives deeply into the strategies, techniques and tools you need to be an effective facilitator. You will not only discover how to show credibility, hook your audience, build rapport, use effective non-verbals, keep them engaged, determine whether they got it, and close to applause, you will actually do it yourself. This is program will ensure you and the rest of the people in your organization will be immediately effective, engaging, exciting, and get results.
  • Rule the Room will teach you how to facilitate and lead valuable group discussions capable of actually changing people’s behavior. Jason Teteak gives you double the techniques of most facilitator programs with hundreds of immediately actionable techniques that cover all the essential areas listed above.
  • Module Two: Show Credibility
  • Get Them to Trust You. I am amazed so many facilitators take such care with the content of their curriculum and don’t spend much time thinking about the first impression they make when they come onstage. I hear awkward comments that are not compelling and don’t make a facilitator seem credible. The audience feels disappointed; its expectations are deflated. Let’s change that now.
  • Module Three: Hook Your Audience
  • Get them to believe you and listen to you. If there’s one thing you can remember from this session, it’s this: your presentation isn’t about you; it’s about your audience. When sitting or standing in front of the audience for the first time, when you’re making that first impression, how you’re feeling and what you’re doing doesn’t matter as much as how they’re doing and how they’re feeling. You’ll learn how to concentrate on their feelings and their needs.
  • Module Four: Build Rapport
  • Build a strong relationship your audience. If credibility describes what you or the audience know about a subject, rapport describes the relationship you build and maintain with the audience while you teach that material. Learn how to build rapport by meeting the needs of your audience.
  • Module Five: Use Effective Non-Verbals
  • Use your body language and tone with dynamic effect. A very effective CEO once told me that if any of her people are having a problem with a client, she knows exactly what to do. She puts that person on a plane and sends him or her off to work things out in person. This is more effective than a phone conference and many, many times more helpful than writing a memo or sending an email, she says. Nothing compares to a face-to-face meeting. Learn how to master nonverbal communication skills.
  • Module Six: Keep Them Engaged
  • Engage them so their minds never wander. You have to show your audience that in order to get the information they’ve come to hear, they have to listen to you. This advice seems deceptively obvious. I tell it to people who’ve come to me for advice and they nod in agreement, as if to say, “Got it.” But they haven’t. This may change that for you.
  • Module Seven: Determine Whether They Got It
  • Ensure they “get” even the most challenging material. In this session, you will learn how to help audience understand each of the objectives above, with a particular emphasis on helping them understand concepts, since those are the objectives that are the most challenging to understand. You’ll also learn how to determine which individuals understand and which do not.
  • Module Eight: Close to Applause
  • Move your audience to respond with enthusiasm. Focused on overcoming their anxieties about the opener and their concerns about the core of the presentation, many presenters pay scant attention to how they will end it. But Rule the Room style is to plan to the end—and beyond. The presentation isn’t over until you’ve met the needs of all the audience members. Do that, and they’ll be saying “wow” about your presentation, too. Here’s how you make that happen.
